Welcome to Words in Progress

I was encouraged to form great sentences,

but I got stuck on the words.

They seemed to want to tell me their stories.

So I sat down with them,

waiting to hear how they arrived here -

what journeys they took,

what secrets they carried,

and what worlds they saw along the way.

Hi, I’m Puja.

I set up Words in Progress to serve as a space for my writing practice, but the online rhetoric on social media led me to explore the etymology (origins of words) we use daily and follow their evolution to the present day.

I now have a mission to find out what you mean by the words you use.

And a vision for you to slow down.

We need to go back to slowing down and thinking about how we communicate; bring back the depth we’re missing from the attention economy and understand how each word has had a long history transcending borders, conflicts and empires.
